Don’t push me off of the podium too quickly. It may not be news directly affecting the Buffalo Sabres organization. However, it adds to a growing list of poor behavior from prominent NHL team leaders and could have added impact on Ryan O’Reilly’s league punishment. He remains at the forefront of bad offseason press stemming from the Eastern Conference. Now Patrick Kane has decided to represent the Western Conference. With Kane entering the scene it’s wise for Buffalo and Chicago fans to prepare for the Commissioner’s hammer. I could see Gary Bettman dealing a harsh, maximized suspension or fine to those that brought a poor image to the league during offseason to go along with any legal ramifications. On August 6, 2015 two law enforcement sources told The Buffalo News that Patrick Kane was being investigated by Hamburg police for an alleged rape incident. This incident was alleged to have occurred between the dates of Saturday August 1, 2015 – Sunday, August 2, 2015.  Continue reading

The Sheriffs Quick Takes of the Week

-Zachary El-Sharif

This past week of sports has reminded us why we devote so much time and money into it. We saw history made before our very eyes. After this busy week in sports, here’s my quick takes on the top news of the week.

American Pharoah won the Triple Crown and was the first horse to do so since Affirmed in 1978. I’m not into horse racing and I find it farfetched to think that your average sports fan really cares about horse racing. Gamblers care about horse racing, and if you like gambling this was kind of a wash out for you for the big three races this year. American Pharoah came into the Kentucky derby at 13-5, which isn’t very risky odds and from there on out he remained the heavy favorite, so for the gamblers looking to make a quick buck it was kind of a throw away year. Congratulations to the group behind American Pharoah; they put together a very historic run together, but don’t expect me to care about it.

Game five starts tonight and it could not come at a better time. The two days off just makes us diehard fans miserable. The first four games have solved nothing, seeing as the series is tied 2-2. Each team has given up a home loss, making tonight’s game five crucial. With Ben Bishop likely getting the start; Toews and the Black Hawks most get pucks to the net early. Bishop has not skated since game three and according Tampa Bay Lighting head coach Jon Cooper this was always the plan.

Key players to watch for on the Lightning roster are: Captain Steven Stamkos (91), Tyler Johnson (9), Nikita Kucherov (86) and Victor Hedman (77). Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

This has the potential to steal the show of the two final series in the NHL and NBA. That’s right, the NHL actually may be able to steal the show. Now, granted there won’t be any dueling television nights, but the bottom line is this series will have sports fans buzzing. The Hawks have the star power. We all know what Toews and Kane brings on the front end and what Keith and Seabrook will provide the back end. Look for Patrick Sharp to try and continue to raise his trade stock (the Hawks are in serious cap trouble come this offseason) and Marian Hossa to show he still has gas left in the tank. Tampa is extremely skilled, but if Steven Stamkos doesn’t show up for a game or two, you are now relying on too much youth and inexperience to lead this team.
