Hidden Damage: Tom Brady and the Buffalo Bills

Tom Brady has seen many Bills quarterbacks through the years, and dominated all of them. (Getty Images)

No discussion of the Bills playoff drought is complete without a mention of its key antagonist, Tom Brady. Don’t worry Bill Belichick I didn’t forget about you and your evil genius, but to list Belichick and Brady as equally responsible for the Patriots dynasty is a bit unfair to Brady. We’ve seen Belichick routinely out coach whoever is on the Bills sideline, leaving the Bills usually looking grossly unprepared so I’m by no means dismissing him. But we all know where the Patriots true greatness comes from. Brady is New England. And no opposing fanbase is more familiar with Brady’s greatness than this one. His record against the Bills is obscene. It’s comical. Fans have to account for the guaranteed two losses when making their playoff projections or risk looking foolish. You just don’t pick the Bills to beat the Patriots. It’s a waste of time. Continue reading

What Does It Mean To Be a Bills Fan in 2016? – An Intro to Drought History

As the Bills prepare for the season on the field, Bills fans prepare for another year of anxiously hoping to make the playoffs. (BuffaloBills.com)

The Streak. It hovers over Bills fans like a dark cloud. You don’t have to explain what it is, everyone knows. It haunts this fan base and fundamentally affects what it means to be a Buffalo sports fan in 2016. 16 years without the playoffs has left us in a weird spot when it comes how we think about the Bills. The years of repeated failure have worn on us and we’re tired. Tired of being optimistic in the off season only to be let down by week 14. Tired of believing that this head coach or GM will be the one to figure it all out. Tired of putting our hopes on a rotating door of quarterbacks, ranging from mediocre to terrible, praying that this guy will finally be the one to lead this franchise back to relevance. As a result, it’s hard to get truly excited for an upcoming Bills season. There’s always that nagging thought in the back of your mind that it’s pointless to get your hopes up, you’re just going to get disappointed anyway.

What an incredible NBA season this was. Golden State sets the record for most wins in a season. Steph Curry shatters his own record for 3s in a season and set a new, probably unreachable standard for shooting in the NBA. We saw the end of Kobe, who despite suffering through the most miserable Lakers season in history, ended his career in the most Kobe-way possible, a 60 point, 50 shot stunner. Russell Westbrook had an incredible 18 triple doubles and Kevin Durant scored 20+ points in a ridiculous 64 games in a row. These feats along with so many other amazing performances came together to shape a uniquely special 2015-16 season. After many months and 1230 games, we’ve finally reached the playoffs, how could you not be excited? While some of the 1st round matchups are bound to be mismatches, it’s always interesting to see which players and teams can rise to another level in the postseason. The Eastern Conference Playoffs will be undoubtedly dominated by the spectre of LeBron James; the living legend has won the conference 5 years in a row, and his Cavaliers are poised to do it again. However, unlike years past, the Eastern playoffs will feature 8 teams all with winning records and I’d argue 8 teams that have hope for the future if not the present. For each series I’ll take a look at which narrative interests me the most.

For the Sabres, it's all about the kids. (Getty Images)

For the Sabres, it’s all about the kids. (Getty Images)

Mike Tolsma and Evan Sally start the show talking about the Sabres season. With only 5 games left what have we learned? Who has disappointed? And is Sam Reinhart a more important piece than Eichel?

Steve Stich then joined the show. The guys talked about how Syracuse was able to make it to the Final Four, how Buddy Hield’s game will translate to the NBA and pick their NCAA Champion. They then talked about D’Angelo Russell filming his teammate Nick Young and what the fallout will be for the Lakers, if LeBron’s social media antics will have any effect on the Cavs and if the Warriors pursuit of the wins record will effect them in the playoffs.

Toronto Raptors: Charged Up for Summer ’16

As we enter the final stretch of the NBA season, it’s time to separate the pretenders from the contenders. While Golden State seems to have a stranglehold on the league, teams like Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Cleveland and even the Clippers are also in contention. But there’s one more team that’s getting lost in the shuffle. Evan Sally and Jim Bearor had an email exchange about the forgotten contender, the Toronto Raptors. How will they fare in the playoffs and how will they fare against Cleveland?

Led by DeMar DeRozan (left) and Kyle Lowry (right) have the Raptors winning more than they have before and they're having fun doing it.
