The Cardinals had to win this game, and I don’t think there was any doubt in most people’s minds that they would. Drew Stanton filled in admirably for Carson Palmer, to the point that I would say there may be a little bit of a quarterback controversy brewing, except that’s not how things work. This game was all about David Johnson, though. Johnson had 157 yards on the ground, adding another 28 on 3 catches. He also scored twice, as did Larry Fitzgerald. Johnson looks to be every bit the star that he was projected to be this year. Fitzgerald, meanwhile, still looks like every bit the Hall of Famer we know he is. Continue reading

DraftKings NFL Daily Fantasy Picks for Week 1

Latavius Murray could be a great value for your Week 1 DraftKings lineup.

Latavius Murray could be a great value for your Week 1 DraftKings lineup.

– John Bandinelli

Welcome to the first week of my DraftKings NFL daily fantasy column. Over the course of the season I will be dishing out some of my favorite picks and maybe some guys you should stay away from. (You’re welcome in advance.) I will only be doing Sunday slates so no Monday or Thursday games here, sorry I work and go to school full time. These columns are going to be geared more towards Guaranteed Prize Pool (GPP) tournaments. So we’re looking for those picks that people might not always use that can give you an edge. These picks are meant to help you build your lineup and are by no means guarantees. (See what I did there.) Some picks will be long shots that won’t pan out. You’ve been fairly warned.  Injuries and bad games happen, always use your own judgement. Let’s get right to it.

Week 1 is always shrouded in mystery. No matter how much you prepare, how much tape you analyze or statistics you pour over, until we get a peek at the 2016 editions of these teams we’re left guessing. This part of the lead up to the season each year frustrates me; at a certain point all the prognostications devolve into the repeating of cliches. Coaches drone on about how much more “aggressive” they plan to be. Analysts on televisions breaking down preseason tape like it’s the Zapruder Film. We’re all starving for some real data, and the first course of a 16 course feast is finally here. Continue reading

Tonight’s NBA Storylines

-Jim Bearor

We have some potential elimination games on the menu tonight. Pau Gasol plans to return tonight as the Bulls host the Cavs in what could be Chicago’s final home game. The Clippers will either finish off the Rockets tonight, or Houston will host Game 7 with all the momentum. To me, these are the most important storylines of the games tonight. Of course there are a million other factors at play here, like the banged up point guards in the Chicago-Cleveland series, Deandre Jordan’s free throw percentage, which Blake Griffin shows up for the fourth quarter, and whether or not Dwight Howard can manage to stay out of foul trouble so DJ doesn’t dominate the court while he’s gone.

I want to focus on those first two things though.
