Steve Stich then joined the show. The guys talked about how Syracuse was able to make it to the Final Four, how Buddy Hield’s game will translate to the NBA and pick their NCAA Champion. They then talked about D’Angelo Russell filming his teammate Nick Young and what the fallout will be for the Lakers, if LeBron’s social media antics will have any effect on the Cavs and if the Warriors pursuit of the wins record will effect them in the playoffs.

In Defense of Trusting Your Gut

As the NCAA Tournament proves every year, as long as randomness reigns there will always be a place in sports for trusting your gut feeling. Pictured: Darnell Harris of 15 seed Middle Tennessee during their win over #2 seed Michigan State. (Getty Images)

You’re watching sports with someone at the bar. They tell you that they have a feeling about what is going to happen next.  They don’t supply any real coherent explanation or data to support their prediction, they just have a hunch.

These kinds of hunches are frail and easily forgotten.  They don’t hold much weight in a serious conversation, because it always seems to come down to numbers and history.  Sport discussions work this way for good reason. Numbers only lie sometimes, and without them, you wouldn’t have any ammunition to put a delusional homer in his place. Of course, numbers and records do exist, and they’re more accessible than ever before.  The endgame of many sports arguments nowadays is a quick Google search to compare stats. If the bulk of information gathered says your hunch is wrong, you often kill it in your head before even mentioning it. Continue reading

First Loaded Weekend in College Hoops

-Brian Wolf

First loaded Saturday of hoops is here!

There are always games. That is one of the best parts about the college basketball season, and sometimes we take that for granted. With the college football season now officially in bowl season, that means more free time on Saturday to watch college hoops. While we all enjoy a Monday night double header, nothing quite beats a full day of action on the hardwood. Sleep in a little bit, turn on GameDay, and then watch college hoops for twelve straight hours on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, CBS, the SEC network, the YES network. This is one of those Saturdays!

December 19th is the first really good hoops Saturday of the 2015-16 season. We have two quality neutral court doubleheaders, a top 10ish match up in Virginia, and at least 10 watchable fixtures to get you through 12 hours of the day. Now that college football takes a back seat and final exams should be wrapped up, it is time for some college hoops!

Here are some of the match ups you must watch, according to awesomeness: Continue reading

College Football Playoff: Week 2 Prediction

Alabama’s defense returned to championship form against LSU (Getty Images)

The first college football playoff ranking is in the books. Last week I made my predictions here. I agreed with the outcome for the most part. Clemson, LSU, and Ohio St. are all worthy of being in the top 4. What did surprise me was the respect for the SEC as Alabama with 1 loss was ranked ahead of the unbeaten teams still hovering around like Baylor, TCU and at the time Michigan State. The committee respects the SEC unlike any conference, and that is a trend to be aware of moving forward. Here are my rankings as we head into the second week of the College Football Playoff rankings.   Continue reading
